Iraq War

The Iraq war is an ongoing conflict initiated on March 20, 2003 as the U.S. and coalition forces invaded Iraq. The main rationale behind the invasion was the fact that Iraq possessed and was actively developing weapons of mass destruction. The forces quickly defeated Saddam’s regime and claimed victory on May 1, 2003.

However, Iraqi insurgents have waged a war against coalition forces since and civil war has ensued in the country. U.S. forces have lost 3,800 personnel, spent billions of dollars and estimates show that over a million Iraqi civilians have died due to the war.

The major question in front of U.S. politicians is whether to stay in Iraq until it is stable, costing Americans billions of dollars and hundreds of lives, or pull out and risk negative repercussions.
