Illegal Immigration is an important issue for America. One the one hand it fills jobs - especially low-pay unskilled jobs, but on the other hand, it puts a strain on the U.S. health care, education and social security system. Estimates indicate that there are somewhere between 10 and 20 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. right now.
There are several debatable questions, including:
Should we provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants?
Should we build a fence along the Mexican border and tighten security - costing the economy billions of dollars but increasing border security?
Should we grant citizenship to U.S. born children of illegal immigrants?
Providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants could increase the influx of illegal immigrants and compromise the credibility of the U.S. immigration system. However, argument could be made that illegal immigrants will enter and stay in the country no matter what, not recognizing them means a loss of tax dollars and more likeliness of engaging in criminal activity or falling into poverty.
