The Second Amendment grants Americans the right to keep and bear arms. Proponents of gun rights cite this amendment and also claim that gun ownership reduces violent crimes. Criminals will be deterred in their motives if they are afraid that their victims might be carrying a gun. Also, hunting is an integral part of life in rural America.
Proponents of gun control cite hundreds of deaths caused from domestic violence and accidental death of kids from handguns as rationale for restricting gun ownership. Moreover, background checks are not required in private sales, including at gun shows. This is a loophole in the system as a majority of the guns in America are from gun shows and private sales.
